ABOUT ME

I'm Brad Gravesen, a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer with 20+ years in IT infrastructure and the last few years focused specifically on Azure and Terraform. I build reusable IaC modules, automate infrastructure operations with PowerShell, and use AI tooling as a daily part of how I work.

I'm currently a Senior Production Service Engineer at Blackbaud, where I've led Azure infrastructure projects including multi-subscription Terraform deployments, Zscaler egress implementation, and large-scale Terraform import work. Outside of work I'm building a portfolio of reusable Azure Terraform modules on GitHub and working toward the HashiCorp Terraform Associate certification.

Senior Production Service Engineer • April 2022 - Present

Zscaler Egress Implementation
Led the Azure-side implementation of a Zscaler deployment across 4 subscriptions, owning the Terraform environment setup, Azure Firewall DNAT configuration, routing and NSG updates, and cutover execution. Worked across 400+ VMs and 250+ storage accounts to route all outbound traffic through a single secure egress path.

Terraform Import and State Management
Migrated 2 Azure subscriptions to full Terraform management, importing 90+ resources including VMs, MySQL, storage, NSGs, and Key Vault. Achieved a zero-change plan after import, validating complete configuration parity with existing infrastructure.

Reusable Compute Module
Built a portable Terraform compute module using a for-each key-based pattern with tfvars-driven VM configuration per region, backed by Azure DevOps pipelines. The module was adopted and used by other teams across the organization.

Additional contributions:

  • Mentored team on Terraform and GitOps practices including pull request standards, code reviews, and pipeline implementation
  • Automated security and optimization tasks using PowerShell across datacenter and Azure environments
  • Served in on-call rotation for incident response across hybrid infrastructure

Managed Azure tenant and Microsoft 365 infrastructure for 5,000+ users including Entra ID, conditional access policies, MFA enforcement, and hybrid identity. Automated operations using PowerShell across user provisioning, compliance reporting, and configuration management. Led network segmentation, server consolidation, and migration of on-premises workloads to cloud services.

Led IT operations across multiple sites including farms, warehouses, and packing facilities. Delivered hybrid cloud integration including Entra ID deployment, directory synchronization, MFA rollout, and Microsoft 365 migration.
